B-1 and B-2 classifications are generally used for qualifying temporary business and visitor purposes. A combined B1/B2 visa may cover both types of temporary travel. The purpose of the trip and the applicant’s circumstances matter.
A visitor visa should not be presented as a substitute for employment authorization, permanent residence, or an immigration category intended for another purpose. Admission and the authorized period of stay are determined separately from a visa’s expiration date.
A refusal should be evaluated based on its actual legal basis. Reapplying without understanding the reason for the refusal may not address the underlying issue.
